Fanad Utd 2-3 Fairview Rangers (Limerick) When Eddie O’Reilly netted a 92nd minute equaliser in Sunday it looked like Fanad Utd might be able to reset for extra-time and maybe another penalty shoot-out similar to the Tramore game. But, the late drama wasn’t over in Traighaloch as four minutes later Fairview Rangers swooped for what proved to be the winner in the FAI Junior Cup quarter-final. Before the biggest crowd at the coastal venue in over 20 years one could sense the sheer disappointment at the final whistle at what might have been. It had all been going pretty well when referee Ray Conlon blew the half-time whistle. Arthur Lynch’s side were 1-0 up thanks to a super left-foot strike from Paddy McGinley in the 34th minute. Against strong opposition the Fanad game plan was not working perfectly but it was steady and composed and left it a near even enough contest over the first 46 minutes. McGinley and Eoin Logue were working well in central midfield while O’Reilly was a threat up front. However, on the wings Fairview gave Peter Carr and Darren McElwaine few opportunities to create chances.
