Cllr Pauric McGarvey has called on the Council to erect safety warning signage and install a barrier at the quay in Ramelton following two recent accidents where cars entered the water. Cllr McGarvey raised the matter during Tuesday’s Municipal District meeting. He expressed serious safety concerns in the aftermath of the two cars rolling down the slipway and into the water. Fortunately in both incidents the occupants were not in the vehicles. “If children had been strapped in they wouldn’t have survived so it’s important that a barrier is erected for the safety of the public” Cllr McGarvey said. The issue has now been referred to the Council’s Rural Regeneration, Flooding Marine and Roads Sections to see if it is feasible for it to be included in any future plans. In addition to this an assessment will be carried out regarding appropriate signage.
